VirtualBox Logo Oracle has released the second beta for what will become version 3.2.0 of its open source VM VirtualBox desktop virtualisation application for x86 hardware. According to developer Frank Mehnert, VirtualBox 3.2.0 will be a major update with several new features, that following Oracle's acquisition of Sun Microsystems one year ago, is now re-branded as Oracle VM VirtualBox .

The second beta introduces Java bindings, addresses a number of regressions found in the previous 3.1.6 and 3.2.0 Beta 1 releases, has several graphical user interface enhancements and includes fixes for Ubuntu 10.04 LTS guests. Other changes include performance optimisations, new icons and various other fixes. As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.

More details about the development release can be found in the release announcement. VirtualBox 3.2.0 Beta 2 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Solaris. VirtualBox source is released under version 2 of the GNU General Public License (GPLv2) while VirtualBox binaries are released under the VirtualBox Personal Use and Evaluation License (PUEL) licence. The latest stable release of VirtualBox is version 3.1.6 from the 25th of March, 2010.
