The OpenSolaris developers have announced the release of the first port of OpenSolaris for ARM processors. The release runs on the ARM v6K architecture (ARM11 MPCore) and supports version 2 of the VFP floating-point extension. The release also includes notable features for an embedded system: the kernel modules are statically linked to the kernel to improve the start up time and the ZFS file system has been modified so that it needs less RAM.

More details about the release can be found in the release notes and an installation guide is is also available.
