Sun OpenSolaris on notebooks Sun Microsystems has released the OpenSolaris programme for CommunityOne West. The event, which aims to bring together students, developers and decision-makers to talk about open source issues, will take place in San Francisco from the 1st to the 3rd of June. Begining with the presentation of the latest version 2009.06 of OpenSolaris, the event will have over 70 sessions. The programme will discuss OpenSolaris as a development platform and its use in data centres. Crossbow, a new network stack in OpenSolaris, which should provide better scalability and performance and support network virtualisation, will be presented at the Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) session.

Plenty of entertainment has also been planned – the OpenSolaris Install Lounge will give visitors an opportunity to meet other OpenSolaris users and visitors can also test their knowledge of OpenSolaris in the Quiz Car, where, with a little luck, they could win a Toshiba laptop with OpenSolaris pre-installed. Toshiba is a major OpenSolaris partner and will be showing off its Tecra M10 and Portégé R600 laptops that include OpenSolaris, during the event.

CommunityOne attendance is free, however, as availability is limited, those planning to attend are advised to register early.
