Sun have officially released OpenSolaris 2008.11. Despite the project having made the operating system available a week ago, the official release now brings a number of new resources online for users interested in the open source Unix.

Sun have published a Whats New in Solaris 2008.11 guide for users, administrators and developers. The guide details all the new packages that have been added to the release, along with links to more detailed guides for specific features.

For those upgrading from OpenSolaris 2008.5 to 2008.11, Sun employee Markus Weber has produced a Screencast covering how to carry out the procedure.

OpenSolaris itself is now mirrored on multiple servers and available at OpenSolaris.org.
