OpenOffice 3.2 RC2 arrives
The OpenOffice developers have announced the availability of the second release candidate (RC2) for what will become version 3.2 of their free open source office suite. In addition to the standard bug fixes, the final version of OpenOffice 3.2, scheduled to be released later this month, will include a number of performance improvements and new features.
Notable changes in the 3.2 branch of OpenOffice include updates to all of the included components, faster start-up time and improved importing of Microsoft Office documents. The final version is also expected to feature accessibility improvements, support OpenType/CFF fonts, work with Quick Look on Mac OS X, and add stemming and morphological capabilities for Thesaurus to Writer. The developers note that the RC2 is only intended for testing and not for production use. Users are encouraged to report any bugs, issues or errors that they experience.
More details about the release can be found in the release notes. OpenOffice 3.2 RC2 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X, Solaris and Linux. OpenOffice is released under version 3 of the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPLv3). The latest stable release is OpenOffice 3.1.1 from the end of August 2009.
