OpenNebula Logo Version 2.2.0 of the open source OpenNebula cloud computing software, code named Cat's Eye, has been released and contains several new features, as well as a simplified user interface. Unlike the previous version, the new package includes the Sunstone web app that provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) management within the browser. The developers say they have also improved the fault tolerance of OpenNebula (FT): should a server go down, the software automatically starts to rebuild the system on a different server if configured appropriately.

Administrators who manage large server farms should benefit from the improved Ganglia monitoring system that monitors both virtual and physical systems. The Open Cloud Computing Interface (OCCI) is now part of the OpenNebula 2.2 image repository and its functionality is supported. Admins can extend or modify their virtual networks at run-time.

Further details can be found in a post on the OpenNebula blog and in the release notes. OpenNebula 2.2 is available to download free of charge, and registration is optional. The software is released under the Apache 2 licence.
