OpenNebula 2.0 open source cloud software released
Where version 1.0 of cloud computing software OpenNebula still had some restrictions, in particular with respect to interactions with some popular hypervisors and cloud interfaces, the development team has delivered a wider range of options in version 2.0. OpenNebula Toolkit 2.0 is able to be adapted to a range of environments and to deal with almost any data centre combination of hardware and software. However, OpenNebula 2.0 is no longer compatible with the previous version 1.4 at the level of APIs and database access.
OpenNebula brings different platforms to the cloud.

New features include an image repository, support for MySQL, clusters, accounting and the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). In addition to Xen and KVM, it's also able to work with VMware virtualisation solutions. The developers report that they have improved scalability, virtual networks and interaction with Amazon's EC2 and the Open Cloud Computing Interface (OCCI).
The OpenNebula Toolkit is available for free download. Users wishing to try it out can learn about the technology or download installation instructions.
