OpenNMS distributed network monitor now also available on Windows

Version 1.6.0 of OpenNMS, the new stable release of the open source network monitor has been released and is ready to download. OpenNMS has a new revised user interface and is now also available for Windows. The new version also has an alarm system that receives events by SNMP, Syslog, TL/1 or via scripts, analyses them and if necessary initiates action based on these events. In addition to automatic service and node recognition, a new model importer can also bring node, device and service information into the software via XML.

OpenNMS 1.6.0 collects information on the status of network devices and services over SNMP (v1, 2c or 3), Java Management Extensions (JMX), HTTP or NSCLient. The OpenNMS browser interface looks after the display, analysis and export of that data. The developers have also extended the software to include new monitors for Windows services, a mail transport monitor and the page sequence monitor, which monitors complete web transactions. OpenNMS can also handle distributed monitoring: a Java program running on remote computers monitors the services, showing on the page sequence monitor, for example, how fast those computers can reach the web sites being monitored. A programming interface connects OpenNMS with ticket systems such as Jira, CentricCRM's Concursive and OTRS.

The OpenNMS web site contains the source code, the program packages, instructions for installing and upgrading the software, and an online demo.
