Charles H Schulz has posted a progress update on the creation of an independent organisation to take over Mandriva Linux. Schulz, who was brought on as an adviser to Mandriva, says in the update that the paperwork to create the "OpenMandriva Association" was sent to the French authorities at the end of October; non-profit NGOs in France are typically created as 1901 voluntary associations.

As part of the transition, the Mandriva Forums will soon be closed and new forums opened. The web services – forum, wiki, bugzilla – are being rationalised into a single Drupal core 7 service, and while the closed forums will be archived, users will need to restart active conversations when the new forums appear. Details of the transitions progress are available on a temporary wiki. The development environment for the distribution is also being migrated to a new system that uses ROSA's ABF and Git.

Schulz calls the migration plan "ambitious" but says that "for the first time since 1998, OpenMandriva has now reached the point where it can fully decide what’s good for itself" and that the community can now "unleash its full potential and live up to its promise".
