OpenERP Logo Following several release candidates, OpenERP has announced the arrival of version 6.0 of its open source ERP business application suite. Provided as separate client and server components, OpenERP includes applications for sales, CRM, project management, warehouse management, manufacturing, accounting and human resources.

Discussing the release, OpenERP COO Marc Laporte said that, "OpenERP v6 is a major breakthrough in ERP simplicity and ease of deployment. For the first time, companies can build an ERP system at their own pace, enjoy the short-term benefits of starting with a single application, and then build end-to-end integration as they deploy additional applications over time," adding that, "No other vendor can provide this kind of integration in just a few clicks".

According to the company, the latest major update to OpenERP adds a variety of enhancements and more than 100 new features, including a new user interface with simplified navigation that makes it more intuitive. Aimed at companies interested in becoming an OpenERP Partner, OpenERP will be hosting a free seminar in London on 24 January that will include an introduction to CRM version 6.0.

Further information about this major update to OpenERP can be found in the company's press release; an online demo is also provided. At the time of this posting, the OpenERP Download page still shows version 5.0.15 as the latest stable release. OpenERP 6.0 source code is hosted on Launchpad and is licensed under the AGPL version 3.0 – previous versions were released under the GPL.
