Apache Chemistry logo The Apache Chemistry OpenCMIS implementation has been updated to version 0.8.0 adding, among other new features, a client library for Android devices. Chemistry is an open source implementation of the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification, which is an OASIS standard and is backed by many CMS makers.

CMIS allows developers to interoperate with various CMIS implementing systems allowing them to address CMS systems through an abstract API. Chemistry is an umbrella project which includes sub projects such as cmislib (a CMIS client library for Python), phpclient (for PHP), DotCMIS (for .NET) and the flagship project, OpenCMIS, client and server CMS libraries in Java. There is also an OpenCMIS Workbench available for working with CMIS systems from the desktop.

The new version of OpenCMIS includes bridges and bindings to connect to WebLogic and WebSphere. The new Android client only implements the ATOMPUB binding of CMIS (rather than the alternative SOAP or JSON bindings) and requires Android 2.3 or later. It provides a synchronous library and the developers recommend that CMIS access be managed from a background thread.

OpenCMIS 0.8.0 is available to download from Apache mirrors and is available as binary JARs for clients, WAR files for servers, and complete sources. All code is licensed under the Apache Licence 2.0.
