The release of OpenBSD, version 4.7 adds new drivers, updated software and ports to a wide range of processor platforms. The SGI port is the first to offer multi-processor support for SGI's Octane work stations and also supports the vendor's Origin, Onyx and Tezro systems. The developers have also extended the support of the Loongson 2E and 2F families of MIPS processors. All in all, the project offers a dozen ports for a large variety of platforms, even including Digital Equipment's Alpha processors.

While most of the new hardware drivers extend the support of network cards and storage systems, there are also drivers for video and audio devices, for instance a new driver for DisplayLink graphics adapters connected via USB. The operating system's range of software is very conservative and includes the GNOME 2.28.2, KDE 3.5.10 and Xfce 4.6.1 desktop environments, Firefox 3.0.18 and 3.5.8, as well as Thunderbird 2.0.0.23.

A detailed list of the changes made since version 4.6 was released at the end of October 2009 is available on the OpenBSD project page. OpenBSD 4.7 is available to download from one of the project's various mirrors.
