Following nearly a three week delay, the OpenBSD project developers have announced the availability of version 4.6 of their free BSD UNIX-like operating system. Originally expected to be released on the 1st of October, OpenBSD 4.6 was delayed due to a number of "serious CD production problems. Version 4.6 is the 26th release on CD (27th via FTP) of OpenBSD and includes a number of new drivers, performance improvements and new features.

Support has been added for Motorola VME boards and SGI Octane, SGI Origin 200 and SGI Fuel systems. In addition to a number of updated network card drivers, SPARC and SPARC64 support has been improved, including graphics card acceleration. Updated components include X.org 7.4 and Perl 5.10.0.

More details about the release can be found in the release notes and the comprehensive change log. A list of known bugs and workarounds can be found on the 4.6 Errata page . OpenBSD 4.6 is available to download or purchase on three CDs for CDN $50.00 (£29.50). The proceeds support the developers and donations are also accepted.
