Open source DVR MythTV 0.24 arrives

MythTV Logo After more than six months of development, the MythTV developers have released version 0.24 of their open source digital video recorder (DVR) software. The latest stable release of the media centre for Linux includes a number of updates and new features, such as a new MythUI on-screen display (OSD).

MythTV 0.24 features the addition of support for Blu-ray disc / folder parsing and playback, as well as the ability to read embedded text subtitles in, for example, MKV files. The release also includes a new online theme browser and downloader, experimental support for Broadcom Crystal HD hardware decoding and automatic metadata grabbing in MythVideo. Other changes include support for unencrypted ISOs, various audio updates, better stability and improved DVD playback.

Further information about release can be found in the official release announcement and in the release notes on the MythTV wiki. MythTV 0.24 is available to download from the project's site and is licensed under the GPL.

Users wanting to take a closer look at MythTV, or set up their own dedicated MythTV system, may be interested in a tailor-made distribution, such as KnoppMyth, MiniMyth and Mythbuntu.
