Zoom The open source XBMC serves as a basis for applications such as Boxee and Plex
The open source XBMC 11 media centre, code-named "Eden", has been in development for almost a year. Now, the XBMC team has made the software available to download for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and iOS – though iOS devices (iPhones, iPads, Apple TV 2) must be jailbroken before XBMC can be used on them. The previous XBMC Live CD has been superseded by XBMCbuntu, which allows users to choose between XBMC and a system with the LXDE desktop at boot time.

Among the most important new features of "Eden" are significantly improved user interface performance, extended network support, and revised metadata grabbers ( also known as "scrapers"), as well as basic AirPlay support in client mode.

The developers have also provided the option to go back to the previous version of an add-on if the new version doesn't work after an update; this functionality is known as "Addon Rollback". Further information on new features and platform-specific changes can be found in the release announcement and the developers' comprehensive change log.
