Open-Xchange talks to the Mac
Open-Xchange has issued two extensions to its groupware that let Mac clients and iPhones access the Open-Xchange server. The OXtender for Mac OS X synchronizes PIM (personal information management) applications contained in Apple's operating system, mobile phones connected to the Mac, and all Mac programs that support iSync, with the Open-Xchange groupware. The OXtender for Mobile Web opens up access via an iPhone to data held on the Open-Xchange database.
The extensions are available to all users of Open-Xchange at no extra cost. There is, though, no free community version of the extensions. Open-Xchange do say that this is the status "at the moment". The company believes that its model of making extensions free of cost for paying users does have the benefit that it simplifies deployment issues; each paid-for user has access to Windows integration, Mac integration and mobile device integration.
