Open-Xchange Logo Nuremberg-based collaboration software specialist Open-Xchange has released an update, version 6.18, to its email and groupware solution. The company says that the most important of the 100 improvements in the release concern the integration of data from social networks and the option of managing, within Open-Xchange, email from external providers.

The new groupware concept, called "Social OX", is designed to make Open-Xchange a central platform for business and private communication. For instance, emails and addresses from Yahoo, MSN/Hotmail and Gmail can now be managed in Open-Xchange, and contact data from social networks, such as Xing, LinkedIn and Facebook, can be integrated in the groupware. The "Publish and Subscribe" function provides an easy way for external users to provide documents.

An overview of all of the changes can be found on the company's Open-Xchange Server 6.18 page. Customers who operate their own Open-Xchange server will receive the update as part of their software maintenance agreement. A community edition of Open-Exchange, licensed under the GPLv2, is also available.
