Open Recall icon Open Recall is a space on The H for those things that are too small to package as news but are worth the linkage. In this edition: open source whiteboard software that runs W3C widgets, OAuth 2.0 is accepted as a standard, KDE turns 16, ASUS announces two laptops that come with Ubuntu pre-installed and XScreenSaver 5.20 is released.

  • Open source whiteboard softwareOpen Sankoré is open source whiteboard software that offers a drop-in replacement for proprietary alternatives and adds a couple of interesting features such as support for the W3C Widgets specification. This means that users can, for example, embed interactive content which has been developed for Apache Wookie directly on the whiteboard.

  • OAuth 2.0 finalised – After a long and somewhat bumpy process, version 2.0 of OAuth has been officially accepted for standardisation by the IETF as part of RFC 6749 and RFC 6750. Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Salesforce have already deployed early drafts of OAuth 2.0. For more information on enhancements over OAuth 1.0 and the process that led to OAuth 2.0, see Dick Hardt's blog post on the topic.

  • KDE celebrates its 16th birthday – KDE turned 16 on 14 October, the day that marks the anniversary of Matthias Ettrich announcing the project on the de.comp.os.linux.misc mailing list. As an expression of their ethos, contributors of the project have also recently published the "KDE Manifesto" which aims to express the values of the KDE community.

  • ASUS laptops available with Ubuntu – ASUS has apparently announced two new laptop models, the F201E and the more expensive X201E, which will also be available with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS pre-installed. Both systems are expected to arrive on shelves at the end of the month in different locales, but actual release dates and pricing for the UK have not been confirmed yet.

  • XScreenSaver 5.20 – Version 5.20 of XScreenSaver has been released for Linux, Mac OS X, BSD and iOS. The new version includes bug fixes and supports the iPhone 5's native resolution.
