Open Recall is a space on The H for those things that are too small to package as news but are worth covering. In this edition: Live ISOs for Mageia 3 beta 4, Midori sticks with WebKit and releases version 0.5.0, and new releases of Kdenlive, ROMP and PCLinuxOS.

  • Live ISOs for Mageia 3 beta 4 – Last week, the Mageia project announced its fourth beta release of Mageia 3, but didn't have Live CD/USB ISOs at the time. The project has announced that those ISO images are now available and interested users can download the development images from the Mageia download page and get testing.

  • Kdenlive 0.9.6 – The latest update to the open source video engine fixes several crashing bugs, including a severe problem that caused project files to appear corrupted. The developers recommend that all users of the software update to Kdenlive 0.9.6 immediately.

  • ROMP 1.6 – The developers from ROSA Lab, the company behind the ROSA Desktop and ROSA Server Linux distributions, have released version 1.6 of ROMP, the ROSA Media Player. The application is built on Mplayer and FFmpeg and includes "a simple interface and many powerful functions", one of which is the ability to extract audio tracks from video files. The source code for ROMP is available from the ROSA Linux web site.

  • Midori sticks with WebKit – Christian Dywan, the developer of the lightweight open source browser Midori, has released version 0.5.0 of the software and has announced that the project will be sticking with WebKit and will implement WebKit2 support in future; this means the project will not be using Google's Blink fork. The 0.5.0 version of the browser has gained a new cookie manager and users can define the new tab behaviour in the browser. Midori 0.5.0 runs on Linux and Windows and can be downloaded from the developer's web site. A complete list of changes is available on the Xfce web site; the Xfce desktop ships Midori by default.

  • PCLinuxOS 2013.04 – The developers of PCLinuxOS have released the latest version of their distribution. PCLinuxOS 2013.04 is available in several editions, including a version with the KDE desktop, the small MiniME edition and the full featured FullMonty release which exceeds 4GB. All three editions can be downloaded from several sources which are listed on the release announcement.
