Open Recall is a space on The H for those things that are too small to package as news but are worth covering. This edition catches up with a number of open source project releases: FreeBSD 8.4, Weston 1.1.1, Zorin OS 7, SystemRescueCd 3.7.0 and Epiphany 3.9.2

  • FreeBSD 8.4 – The fifth release of the stable branch of FreeBSD 8 adds new versions of GNOME (2.32.1) and KDE (4.10.1) as well as a new version of the ZFS filesystem. A complete list of features in FreeBSD 8.4 is available in the release notes.

  • Weston 1.1.1 – The developers of the Weston reference compositor for the Wayland display server have released the latest version of their software. Weston 1.1.1 includes 21 bug fixes. The developers point out that there has been no Wayland release to go along with the new Weston version as Wayland itself has seen "no commits since the 1.1.0 release that qualify for a stable release".

  • Zorin OS 7 – The latest release of the Zorin OS Core and Ultimate editions is now available. Zorin OS 7 includes Linux kernel 3.8, updated software and a new visual design. Zorin OS is targeted at newcomers to the Linux desktop and allows users to choose between a variety of desktop environments that mimic the look of various Windows versions and Mac OS X; GNOME 2 and Unity are also available.

  • SystemRescueCd 3.7.0 – The developers of SystemRescueCd have released version 3.7.0 of their live Linux distribution designed for repairing and maintaining systems. The latest version adds updated Linux kernels and downgrades the included GCC version to GCC 4.4 to save space on the live image. A list of all changes is available in the SystemRescueCd change log.

  • Epiphany 3.9.2 – GNOME's Epiphany browser has moved to support only WebKit2, removing compatibility with the older API layer. Epiphany 3.9.2 is now also able to start under the Wayland display server and users can run a standalone instance of the browser with different profiles.
