Open Build Service 2.3 improves update handling

Version 2.3 of the Open Build Service (OBS) has been released by the openSUSE developers and offers various improvements in its handling of updates. OBS is the software that powers build.opensuse.org, allowing thousands of developers to build and manage hundreds of thousands of packages. Other organisations that use the software include the MeeGo and Tizen projects, Intel, Dell and SGI.

Version 2.3 of OBS sees enhancements in the way in which quality assurance and review features are integrated in the update process; also, one or more maintenance groups can now coordinate if and when to start or release an update. The developers say that they have also improved the web interface, adding user management, syntax highlighting and improving source code diff review views. Other additions include Cross Build Support via Qemu and the ability to hide entire projects. Further details on the new features of OBS 2.3 are available in the release notes.

The predecessor of version 2.3 was released more than 18 months ago – version 2.3 is the first OBS release since the project's name was changed from openSUSE Build Service to Open Build Service. Some of the OBS 2.3 features are already being used by the openSUSE project.

The OBS 2.3 software is available to download as packages for openSUSE and SUSE Linux Enterprise, as appliances in PXE, raw or VMWare format, or as source code. It is licensed under the GPLv2.
