Zoom Joe "Zonker" Brockmeier
Joe "Zonker" Brockmeier has announced that he is leaving his position as Community Manager at Novell in a posting on his blog. Brockmeier joined Novell in early 2008, after previously working as editor in Chief at Linux Magazine and editorial director at Linux.com. Brockmeier's departure comes weeks after the departure from Novell of CTSO Nat Friedman.

In his blog posting entitled "So long and thanks for all the Geekos!", Brockmeier says that the decision was not an easy one, but as openSUSE 11.2 has been launched and his major projects have been completed, he felt it "a good parting point" and is now returning to freelancing and looking for a "company or organisation that will be a good fit for the next 10 years or more". Brockmeier, who was recently interviewed by The H, said of his time at the Linux vendor "Working with Novell and the openSUSE community has been a great experience" but that he looked forward to being "off the road for a while and establishing a routine that doesn't involve quite so many airports". Brockmeier adds that his final day at Novell will be January 31st.
