openSUSE logo Novell has created an openSUSE Team within the company with a team of ten experts exclusively dedicated to the openSUSE project; the move is aimed at increasing Novell's support of the community distribution. Roland Haidl, Director of Operations & Communities at Novell, announced the change in management on the openSUSE mailing list. Haidl said that, to date, Novell's staff only worked on the community distribution when they had time, but that this "when time is left, please work in the openSUSE project" rule would no longer apply to the ten specialists.

Among the team are familiar faces from the openSUSE development scene. Leading the team is Klaas Freitag and Henne Vogelsang will take on the role of openSUSE project manager. Stephan Kulow will continue to be the release manager for upcoming openSUSE 11.2.
