Novell and VMware plan to expand their cooperation in the virtualisation sector. Independent software vendors (ISVs) will benefit from the cooperation that will focus on the simple provision of Suse Linux Enterprise-based virtual VMware appliances. ISVs who already use VMware Studio to create Suse appliances can submit them for evaluation free of charge. Backup specialist Zmanda plans to produce an early example of an appliance and will make it available via VMware's Virtual Appliance Marketplace soon.

The two companies will also expand their cooperation in the services sector. Novell will extend its support for Suse Linux Enterprise-based guest systems on VMware's ESX Server. The joint effort is designed to help SAP customers migrate from Unix to SLES systems virtualised with VMware.
