Novell and LPI announce Linux training and certification partnership

Novell and the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) have announced a new international partnership aimed at standardising their entry-level Linux certification programs. According to Novell, under the program, individuals that have earned their LPIC-1 status under the Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) program "will also satisfy the requirements for the Novell Certified Linux Administrator (CLA) certificate". Jim Lacey, president and CEO of LPI said that, "by aligning its training and exam preparation curriculum to support LPIC-1 objectives, Novell has recognised the industry's need for a vendor-neutral certification program that prepares IT professionals to work with any Linux distribution in an enterprise environment".

The LPIC program consists of three certification levels, ranging from basic tasks, including the Linux command line and workstation configuration (LPIC-1), to "enterprise level" skills (LPIC-3). Novell says that its CLA certification program is aimed at providing "the day-to-day administration of installed SUSE Linux Enterprise Server networks". Under the agreement, qualified LPIC-1 holders can apply for Novell CLA certification without any additional fees or exams and the Novell Training Services will include LPIC-1 objectives.
