The ongoing acquisition of Novell by Attachmate, will apparently not affect Novell's plans to hold a BrainShare event this year – this will now take place in October, some months later in the year than the 2010 March event. This news follows an earlier posting in December 2010 that plans for BrainShare 2011 would be delayed due to the acquisition. Novell has held BrainShare events, which it traditionally uses to announce new products, for over 20 years, although it cancelled BrainShare 2009 due to the economic downturn and its expected effects on travel budgets.

The in-house event for Novell partners and customers is scheduled for 10 to 14 October in Salt Lake City. Registration is open from 1 May; those wishing to be kept informed of BrainShare updates can join an updates mailing list.

By the end of last week, the Novell investors had agreed the acquisition by Attachmate. The shareholders' meeting represented about two thirds of the stock's traded shares, with 99 per cent agreement. Attachmate will pay $6.10 per Novell share.
