Notepad++ 6 adds regular expressions and a file map
The developers of Notepad++ have announced release 6 of their open source text editor for Windows. The tool is written in C++ and supports plugins, macros, and text highlighting for many programming languages including C, C++, C#, Visual Basic, Java, Lua, Python, Perl, SQL, HTML and XML.
The newest version includes a document map feature that displays a miniature overview of the complete file being edited, along with support for Perl Compatible Regular Expressions (PCRE). Additionally, the loading of large files has also been speeded up. The developers point out that the ANSI-compatible version of the editor will be deprecated in future releases as it is no longer maintained.
Notepad++ can be downloaded as a Windows installer, a standalone application package and as source code from the project's web site. The software is made available under the terms of the GPLv2.
