Notepad++ 5.5.0 released

Notepad++ 5.5.0 on Windows 7. The Notepad++ developers have released version 5.5.0 of their source code editor for Windows. Notepad++ is written in C++ and uses only Win32 API calls using the Standard Template Library (STL). It supports the ANSI and Unicode character sets, macros, plug-ins and a wide variety of languages, including C, C++, C #, Visual Basic, Java, Python, SQL, HTML, XML, CSS, Lua and custom languages. The latest release of the open source editor includes several bug fixes, updates and new features.

The 5.5.0 update features a controversial new chameleon icon and upgrades the Scintilla editor component on which Notepad++ is based from version 1.78 to the latest 2.01 release. In addition to addressing a number of bugs, the inclusion of Scintilla 2.01 improves Notepad++ performance and adds new features. The release includes updates to the 9 default plug-ins that are included with the program and additional plug-ins can be installed without needing to restart the application. Other new features include virtual space for column mode, multi-editing and selection, different settings per language and updates to the Search functionality.
