Nokia has confirmed that it will not be releasing the only MeeGo phone the company has been planning, the Nokia N9, in the UK or US. It has been telling UK media outlets that it "takes a market by market approach to product rollout" and although it is "delighted with the very positive reception that the Nokia N9 has received, here in the UK there are no plans to offer the Nokia N9 at present".

The company has made similar statements to US media outlets as well, making it clear that, in the US and UK at least, it sees no future for the Linux-powered phone. In the US, Nokia also said that it was planning to stop sales of Symbian phones as it gears up for the release of its Windows Phone 7 devices at the end of the year.

According to Nokia's N9 "Check Availability" page, the MeeGo phone will be making an appearance in Europe in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland. Outside Europe, the device is due to appear in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.
