Ari Jaaksi, the Nokia Vice President in charge of MeeGo devices, has confirmed that he has left the company. His departure follows the replacement of CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo by the former head of Microsoft's Office division Stephen Elop and the exit of another senior manager, Anssi Vanjoki. Jaaksi told Finnish paper Talous Sanomat (Finnish language link) that he had left the company in the previous week.

Jaaksi had managed the development of the Maemo operating system and devices which used it. Maemo was merged with Intel's Moblin mobile operating system in February to create the Linux Foundation managed MeeGo. A MeeGo version for netbooks was released over the Summer and handset variants of the operating system have been previewed. However, MeeGo has yet to appear in any new Nokia devices. Despite Jaaksi's exit, Nokia says it is on schedule to deliver "an update on MeeGo" before the end of the year.

In a statement to the press, Nokia said that Jaaksi had "decided to leave Nokia and will pursue opportunities elsewhere". No replacement for Jaaksi has been announced.
