Nokia's Qt Software has announced that the source code repositories for the Qt tool kit are now open to the public. The announcement follows a promise made by the Qt development team to release the tool kit under the GNU Lesser Public License 2.1 (LGPL). The move will make it easier for other developers to contribute patches, translations and code. The Qt developers have also published a Qt Roadmap that lists the popular GUI library's current development and its future direction.

Qt is a cross platform C++ GUI tool kit that is available on Linux, Mac OS X and Windows and is at the heart of the UNIX / Linux KDE desktop. Qt Jambi, a Java version of the Qt GUI library, has also been updated to version 4.5.0_01 and released under the LGPL, two months after it was originally expected to be made available.
