No Ubuntu for tablets

Ubuntu sponsor Mark Shuttleworth has told IT news service Golem that rumours circulating in recent days of a special version of Ubuntu Linux for tablets are based on a misunderstanding. During LinuxTag in Berlin, Shuttleworth told the news service that comments in an interview with Chris Kenyon, Business Development Director at Canonical, have been misinterpreted.

Future Ubuntu versions will continue to be developed for netbooks, desktops and servers. According to Shuttleworth, Ubuntu is working with OEMs on Ubuntu Light, a special netbook version which will be pre-installed on laptops and netbooks and used in parallel with Windows as an instant-on system, but that there was not a special Tablet version of Ubuntu in development.
