Nexenta Logo The Nexenta Project development team has issued a second release candidate (RC2) for version 3.0 of its Nexenta Core Platform (NCP). The hybrid distribution combines an OpenSolaris kernel with Ubuntu userland, integrating Solaris features like the ZFS file system.

Based on OpenSolaris build 134+ (including critical patches), the latest development milestone fixes several bugs and includes dozens of ON fixes back-ported to b134. Version 3.0 of the NCP will feature support for ZFS deduplication and Crossbow network virtualisation. Assuming that no other issues are reported, the NCP 3.0 RC2 will likely become the final Nexenta Core Platform 3.0 release.

As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to report any bugs that they find.

More details about the release can be found in the official release announcement and in the NCP3 RC2 changelog. Nexenta Core Platform 3.0 RC2 is available to download from the project's website. The latest stable release of the Nexenta Core Platform is version 2.0 from May of last year.
