Puppy Linux Logo Version 4.3 of the lean Puppy Linux distribution is now available to download. At a size of just about 110 Mbytes, the system with its JWM and IceWM window managers offers up to date applications and includes many new features. Puppy Linux 4.3 now uses with kernel version 2.6.30.5 which includes ext4 filesystem support. Among the highlights of the release is support for "winmodem" components that use, for example, Smartlink or Conexant chipsets; this allows Puppy Linux to be used by users who only have access to analogue dial-up connections. The BootFlash tool for installing Puppy Linux on USB flash drives and Linux DVB applications have also been added. The release notes contain all the details of the changes.

Even more changes were made to the distribution's build process: The new system for creating Puppy Linux images, Woof, allows users to build a Puppy Linux from packages of any distribution. This enables Puppy users to create a lean, fully equipped system they can expand and customise using the distribution packages of their basic systems. In the Puppy Linux forum, several users have already started working on Dpup, a Puppy system made up of Debian packages.
