More than two years after the previous version, the developers of the open source multi-player shooter Cube 2: Sauerbraten have provided a new major release. The latest version is code-named the "Collect Edition" and includes 45 new maps as well as three new game modes called "collect", "insta collect" and "efficiency collect".

Sauerbraten supports rendering of directional sunlight and reflections on four different types of reflective materials such as water, lava and glass. The developers say that the game can now handle international character sets and that the new version runs on 64-bit Windows systems as well. The server browser automatically updates the available games servers and the in-game mini map now shows a player's team-mates. Many further new features enhance the gameplay as well as the server application; details are listed in the change log for the release.

Sauerbraten is released under the zlib licence and is available to download for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows from the project's web site. Commercial support for the game can be purchased from dot3 labs. The title "Sauerbraten" is derived from a German dish of the same name.
