New tool synchs Mac OS X with Open-Xchange groupware

A new connector for Mac OS X allows the open source Open Xchange groupware to be used with Apple systems. OXtender for Mac OS X synchronises various kinds of data between an Open-Xchange server and local applications on Mac clients: contacts with Apple's Address Book, appointments and to-do entries with the iCal calendar program and so on. Any iPods, iPhones and other devices that support iSync and are connected to the Mac can also exchange their data with the groupware server. The push feature of Apple's MobileMe online service also allows emails, contact details and appointments to be received directly on iPhones, and OXtender for OS X is noted as working alongside this service as long as only one Mac OS X system is configured with OXtender. WebDav already allows the groupware's Infostore filesystem to appear in the Finder.

A beta version of the new connector is available to try out, which works with the groupware's new Appliance Edition as well as its Server Edition and its Hosting Edition. The final version of the tool is scheduled to become available at no extra cost.
