Wakanda logo French software company 4D has released version 5 of Wakanda, its open source JavaScript platform for building data-driven web and mobile business applications. Along with the new release, the company has completely reworked its licensing and support options with a variety of commercial licences.

The Wakanda Development Business licence, for just under 100 euros a year per developer, allows users to keep their source code private, unlike the Community Edition, which, with the AGPLv3 licence, requires that all code is made open source. The commercial licence also allows the use of the commercial versions of Wakanda Server, Wakanda Studio and the Wakanda Application Framework for testing purposes.

The new Wakanda Deployment Business licence is available for almost 200 euros a year per Wakanda Server instance; each server can run multiple applications, and code developed with this licence does not have to be shared as open source. 4D plans to diversify even further and has already announced that other commercial licences for the platform will be available soon with upcoming "Enterprise" features in mind.

In terms of features, new interface widgets, CSS themes and features for session and permissions management have been added, and software developers can now work with Git branches. The full details of the changes are offered in a document from the manual which highlights where changes have been made in the documentation.
