The developers of the popular panel launcher application Cairo-Dock have updated it to version 3.2. Following around six months of work, the new version offers improved multi-display support and includes a new application for producing screenshots which should eventually be able to replace gnome-screenshot. The new Sound-Effects plugin adds sounds to some dock actions. Remote folders (such as through Samba or FTP) and encrypted drives can now be managed via the Shortcuts applet.

Cairo-Dock is a Linux desktop application that can be used to add one or more extra panels containing application launchers, additional functions, and rapid access to programs such as media players to a range of different desktop environments. The software is very customisable and works with Unity, GNOME Shell, Xfce, KDE, and other desktops. When using optional OpenGL, Cairo-Dock becomes Glx-Dock and is able to make use of hardware acceleration features.

Cairo-Dock 3.2 also has better support for GNOME Shell and can use GDM to switch user accounts. The notepad applet can now use Tomboy or Gnote. New themes and desklet decorations have also been added. All changes are described in the change log. The GPLv3-licensed source code is available to download from Launchpad, though the developers recommend installing the tool from the repositories of Linux distributions where possible.
