Sun Microsystems has presented version 6 of its subscription-based "Java Enterprise System" software package at its JavaOne conference. Java ES 6 includes more suites and products than the previous version, for example the Sun Identity Management Suite and the Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite (Java CAPS), which have been tested and integrated with the existing package components.

In addition, it contains the open source Sun GlassFish Portfolio web application platform and the Sun Availability Suite, also known as Solaris Cluster, as well as the basic Sun Java Enterprise System Base (Java ES Base). The developers have also added the GlassFish Web Space Server 10 and the Sun OpenSSO Enterprise identity and access management solution to the software package.

Users who subscribe to the basic version of the Java Enterprise System can add on other components as required. Sun also offers individual Java system package subscriptions for users who only need specific suites, rather than the complete package. The packages include support and various other services. The supported operating systems are Solaris, Linux and Windows.
