TurnKey co-founder Liraz Siri has announced the availability of the 2009.10 release batch, which includes 40 new and updated appliances and support for Amazon EC2. TurnKey Linux is an open source project with the goal of developing a free virtual appliance library that, according to the developers, "features the very best server-oriented open source software".

Each appliance is composed of a stripped-down Ubuntu installation (TurnKey core). The latest release batch is now based on Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS, the third maintenance update to the Long Term Support (LTS) version of the Ubuntu Linux distribution, and since the developers wanted to expand their virtual appliance library, includes 25 "all new" appliances . New appliances include, for example, file server, DokuWiki, Zimbra and the OTRS ticket request system. Each of the appliances is available to download as an ISO image or as a virtual machine image that can be used with VMware or VirtualBox.
