At its in-house conference being held this week in Chicago, Red Hat has presented the first fruits of the strategic partnership between its JBoss subsidiary and French software house eXo, in the form of the new GateIn project.

eXo turned its eXo platform portal over to the JBoss.org community in mid June, with the aim of developing portal software combining the portal technologies of JBoss Portal and eXo Portal. Red Hat wanted the joint project to focus on infrastructure and container performance, as well as security and rich application integration, while eXo wanted to contribute its expertise in user interface and administration functions.

The GateIn Portal beta which has now been released should eventually be integrated into the JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform and contains functions for managing virtual portals, drag and drop layouts, contact menus, navigation and security and access administration functions. The GateIn Portal is licensed under the LGPLv2.
