Google has announced that the latest beta version of its Chrome browser now incorporates automatic translation and improvements to privacy features. The automatic translation detects when a page is written in a different language from the user's preferred language and pops up a "translation bar" offering to translate the page using Google's machine translation system. Users can also select to never translate for a particular language, or to never translate particular sites.

Privacy on Chrome has been improved to allow finer grained control over how cookies, images, JavaScript and other web content are handled. In the Under the Hood preferences, a new option for Content Settings allows, for example, only cookies from visited sites to be accepted, while blocking all third-party cookies. Each of the settings can have per-site exceptions for when the default rules should not apply.

Google plan to roll the new features out to the stable channel within a few weeks. The features are in development for the Linux and Mac versions of Chrome, but are currently incomplete in released development versions of the browser.
