NetBeans 6.5 Beta arrives with PHP support

Sun Microsystems' NetBeans.org has released the first beta of NetBeans 6.5, the Java based development integrated environment. New features in Netbeans 6.5 include PHP support and an improved version of the JavaScript support that shipped in NetBeans 6.1.

The PHP support includes code completion highlighting, support for heredoc notation, debugging and generators for MySQL database code snippets. JavaScript support has become more stable and intelligent over completion. Java developers will find the new Compile-On-Save and Deploy-On-Save options useful; these allow classes to be recompiled on the fly and dynamically reloaded in the debugger or redeployed into a Java EE application server.

The UML components of NetBeans are missing from this beta release, although they are available on the NetBeans Update Center. This omission is due to the UML modules getting a major rewrite and having a higher than expected bug count. The release notes cover the other current known issues and other updates in the NetBeans 6.5 Beta which is available to download on the Netbeans site.
