Icinga logo Icinga lead developer Michael Friedrich has announced the release of version 1.7 of the Icinga open source network monitoring system, a fork of Nagios. The update includes core performance improvements and sees the addition of two new views to the Classic UI (user interface): "CGI Config Options" and "Modified Attributes". The first of these shows user authorisations, while the other displays host and service configurations.

The Icinga Web frontend now includes a config view, allowing users to customise the information that's displayed. This can be done by creating new cronks, which are simple widgets implemented in PHP, HTML or JavaScript. The developers also note that, for those upgrading, the location of configuration files will have to be manually updated. This change, Friedrich says, "helped us make packaging easier, as now the libraries are where most packagers expect them to be".

More details about the update can be found in the announcement blog post, which includes the change log summary. Version 1.7 of Icinga is available to download from the project's SourceForge page and is licensed under the GPLv2.
