NX technology becomes fully closed source
In announcing the first preview version 4.0 of its NX technology, NoMachine has made it clear that this new version will be entirely closed source.
The company's product line concerns network computing, providing cross-platform remote access and terminal services on Linux. In current versions, certain components are available as open source, most notably the software used to compress network traffic. This compression software is partly responsible for NoMachine's claim that its system can run over "extremely low-bandwidth" internet connections.
The company makes it clear in its announcement that the NX 4.0 Technology Preview now available is intended only as an introduction to the new system. It does not carry the full feature set of theforthcoming release, which is "still under heavy development."
