.NET Micro Framework could become open source
Microsoft appears to be considering making the source code for the .NET Micro Framework (MF) available as open source. In view of the fact that the MF team is being shifted to Microsoft's 'Server and Tools' development division, the decision may be a reflection of last week's announcement of cost-reduction measures. The team has confirmed the move on its blog and hints at the prospect of (at least) stronger community involvement.
Micro Framework is a .NET runtime environment for smaller devices which are not supported by Microsoft's .NET Compact Framework or embedded Windows CE operating system. The framework does not support real time operating systems, but does support processers such as the ARM7 and ARM9, and it also allows garbage collection from memory.
