MySociety.org logo MySociety, the project which runs many democracy related web sites such as TheyWorkForYou.com, WriteToThem.com and PledgeBank.com, have issued a call for proposals for future projects. The group, who use open source to power their sites and release their code under the GPL, are looking for ideas which involve the internet and encompass ideas which have an easy to explain "social, civic or democratic benefit".

Previous calls for proposals in 2003 resulted in the creation of WriteToThem.com which allows users to identify their local councillers, MPs, MEPs or Assembly Members and easily send them a message. A similar call in 2006 lead to the launch of WhatDoTheyKnow.com which helps users create or explore Freedom of Information requests. MySociety.org's work was profiled in a feature Open Democracy, open source on The H in 2008. Proposals are being accepted on the 2009 Call For Proposals site until September 15th.
