MySQL 5.1 has already passed its million downloads milestone according to Zack Urlocker, Vice President of Marketing for the open source database. Urlocker called passing the milestone "Pretty cool!". He is now trying to track down the millionth downloader and is considering embarrassing them at the MySQL Conference and Expo in April with some form of award.

MySQL 5.1 has been available to download since 27th of November 2008 bringing a number of new features, including table partitioning, replication and XML processing support. For more background on what's new in MySQL 5.1, see our feature article New features in MySQL 5.1.
