Multi-channel audio support for Wine
Multi-channel support in the ALSA audio driver is one of the major new features of Wine 1.5.11, which has just been released. The developers have also removed the "big X11 lock", although they didn't mention whether, or to what extent, the restructured locking features for the graphical user interface of Linux systems affect performance. Other changes include additional I/O stream implementations in the C++ runtime and fixes for nearly 40 bugs.
Like other versions of Wine with an odd second digit in their version number, this is a developer release; however, some Linux distributions do include such versions or deploy them as regular updates. The developers of the software for running popular Windows programs under Linux usually release a new developer version every other week.
A full list of changes and fixes can be found in the release announcement and in the shortlog. Wine 1.5.11 is available to download from the project's site and is licensed under the LGPLv2.1 or later. The current stable release is Wine 1.4.1 from mid-June.
