Thunderbird Logo The Mozilla developers have released version 3.1.2 of their open source Thunderbird email and news client, code named "Lanikai". According to the developers, the latest maintenance update addresses several user experience concerns and improves the applications overall stability.

In total, the update fixes 7 bugs found in the previous release, including an issue resulting in empty default smart folders following an upgrade from version 3.0.6 to the 3.1.x branch of Thunderbird on Mac systems. Other issues include fixing an indexing failure on all systems and various upgrade problems resulting in the failure of IMAP folder message notification. An issue that prevented Thunderbird 3.1 from playing sound on Linux systems has also been fixed. Mozilla advises all users to upgrade.

More details about the release can be found in the release notes. Thunderbird 3.1.2 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux systems. Thunderbird binaries are released under the Mozilla Thunderbird End-User Software License Agreement and the source code is released under disjunctive tri-licensing that includes the Mozilla Public Licence, GPLv2 and LGPLv2.1.
